Application for fellowships is now closed

The Heidelberg Graduate School of Fundamental Physics invites applications for doctoral fellowships for excellent students in its core areas of modern fundamental physics:

  • (a) Fundamental Interactions and Cosmology,
  • (b) Astronomy and Cosmic Physics and
  • (c) Quantum Dynamics and Complex Quantum Systems.

The branch Astronomy and Cosmic Physics is the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Astronomy and Cosmic Physics at the University of Heidelberg. Astronomy students accepted into the Graduate School will automatically be members of the IMPRS-HD and conversely.

Membership in the IMPRS for Quantum Dynamics in Physics, Chemistry and Biology as well as the IMPRS for Precision Tests of Fundamental Symmetries in Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics, Atomic Physics and Astroparticle Physics at the University of Heidelberg is envisaged if appropriate.

All applicants for fellowships have to initiate their application via registration using the web-form provided on this site. Please use the Link on the right hand side to start the process.

Please note that you may submit the form at any stage - your data will be saved when you submit the form. You can complete passages or make changes at any stage before the deadline has expired.

Applicants who plan to do research in the area of Astronomy and Cosmic Physics can alternatively make their application to the International Max Planck Research School for Astronomy and Cosmology at the University of Heidelberg. Admission is coordinated with the Graduate School of Fundamental Physics.

Application for admission for the academic year 2012 is now closed.

The deadline for receipt of the full application plus references was NOVEMBER 30, 2011. Further calls for application may be made in the course of 2012.

The international graduate programme in fundamental physics was established through the joint efforts of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Heidelberg University, the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics and the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy.
